Taking a short respite from studying to post, bear with me just a few more days!

Despite the presence of a good 8 inches of snow yesterday, summer is rapidly approaching, and I am quite glad. More like ecstatic. Not just because classes will be ending, either. Now that I have a steady job and a little more free time on my hands, I’ll be able to get back to the things I reallly enjoy (hint: efficiency algorithms and design patterns aren’t on the list.)

I’ve already purchased tickets for the upcoming Keane and Relient K concerts, and I should be able to get in two or three other shows as well, minimum. I’m also going to try and work a few 4-10′s so that I can take some weekend trips down to southern Utah (or anywhere else within a reasonable distance, for that matter.)

My list of books to read has been growing over the last month (I haven’t done any significant reading since No god but God), so I look forward to catching up on that. Last summer I was far too lazy about my reading goals, and didn’t really get back into it until I met someone who was perhaps even more of a bookworm than I am. And this year I won’t be wasting any time installing window screens — thank goodness for that.

I was able to meet up with some good friends for lunch up on campus (@ the MoA Cafe), and it was nice to catch up on news. I had my final for MFG 201 in the mid-afternoon, after which I did some Christmas shopping and made a ton of cookies for a group study session for American Christianity. We had less than a dozen people show up, so there were enough cookies left over for my roommate and me to take some to our home teachees later in the evening.

So, being the studious person I am, I woke up this morning and started preparing for my CS 330 final. We’re allowed to use our book and notes, so I was condensing all of my lecture notes when the power suddenly went out. “Great,” I thought, “some idiot driver probably just sideswiped a utility pole. I guess I’ll have to wait a few minutes to print these out.” I went upstairs to see if maybe one of the circuit breakers had blown — as I did so, I could hear one of my other roommates coming down from the second floor — he clearly had the same idea. After checking the breakers and verifying that they were set, my roommate headed next door to see if the neighboring apartment was also without power. It was then that we found out why the power had gone out.

Hanging neatly on the outside door knob was a flyer from the utility company. Evidently, someone had forgotten to pay the electric bill. We weren’t too surprised — the other roommate in charge of the electric bill is, shall we say, intellectually deficient. A nice guy, but just not quite all there. It took us a while to wake him up, but we eventually got him out the door with a check in his hand. The power was restored within an hour, but needless to say, we’ll be transferring that account to someone else.

I’m just looking forward to being done with classes and resuming a normal sleep / social schedule.

In other news, the Obama camp received more support this week as the former Senators Sam Nunn and David Boren joined his ranks. Those who have lived in Oklahoma know of Boren’s incredible reputation – the man has done wonders for the University of Oklahoma and for the state in general.
