More posts and a baptism

I finally took the time to import all of the posts from my old blog (which actually was quite a bit easier than I had imagined it would be), so now I can start the process of redirecting those domains to this one. The plan is to nix two of my older domains when they expire, one of which I’ve maintained for over five years, and possibly two newer ones as well. I’m fast approaching my 100th post, which isn’t really monumental, but I guess I should think of something at least somewhat extraordinary to write about.

There was a baptism in our ward today, which was really awesome for two reasons (in addition to the whole entering into the kingdom of God aspect): First, in a BYU student ward, it’s extremely rare to ever have somewhere our age get baptized — either they are already a member of the Church when they enroll, or they’re strong in another denomination. Second, much of the baptismal service was in Spanish, and I could still understand everything! Yea for being bilingual!

Hosting problems

If you’ve noticed this past week or so, my blog has been loading really slowly, if at all. The hosting company I’ve been using, Dreamhost, has been having a ton of problems lately. They claim that the current problems are due to a DoS attack, but it’s hard to say, since they’ve been having a ton of other problems, all of which have been self-inflicted. If things don’t improve soon, I might start considering a switch to a different host. Don’t let me down, Dreamhost!

WordPress 2.7

I upgraded the blog to WordPress 2.7 early this afternoon, and I have to admit, I love the new admin interface. Gone are the days of the awful burnt orange. Not only is the dashboard a million times better, the post-writing interface has also undergone a major overhaul. The best new feature in 2.7? The text editor now uses a serif font! (If you don’t appreciate the significance of that fact, that’s okay, I forgive you — just don’t ever ask me to edit a paper for you.) In honor of the new version, I edited the theme so that the posts display in a serif font as well and tweaked the kerning a smidge just for good measure.

New blog, old theme

Welcome to my new blog. To be honest, this has actually been here for a while, but this URL has been pointing at my other blog, to which I haven’t posted in ages. I’ve been experimenting with a few new themes, but none of them really fit my requirements, so I’ll be sticking with Tarski until I get a chance to design a custom theme, which may not be until after this semester is over.

The purpose of this blog is to establish a more centralized presence on the internet, so that people who are searching for me find this site rather than information on John Knowles’s A Separate Peace, or my other semi-famous namesakes.

Update: I found a decent three-column theme that works slightly better with the widgets I’m using, so I may just tweak it a bit rather than creating a new theme from scratch.
