This week’s recipe may be delayed slightly due to the length of the recipe (trust me, it’s worth the extra typing), so in the meantime, I want you all to install Dropbox on your computer. Dropbox functions as an automatic file synchronization utility, with the added benefit that your files are accessible online as well as any other computers to which your Dropbox account is linked. Think of it as a thumbdrive on steroids. And if, for whatever reason, you insist on carrying around a USB drive, there’s even a portable version.
Even if you only use a single computer, Dropbox works great as a backup service. The free plan includes 2GB of space, with monthly plans available for those who require more space, but 2GB is more than sufficient for your critical files. The web interface is particularly useful when your cousin’s laptop won’t turn on and you need to access a homework assignment immediately. (You know who you are!)
For the more advanced user, Dropbox can also be used to sync Outlook files, IM profiles, password databases, etc., but for information on that, please refer here.
