So, being the studious person I am, I woke up this morning and started preparing for my CS 330 final. We’re allowed to use our book and notes, so I was condensing all of my lecture notes when the power suddenly went out. “Great,” I thought, “some idiot driver probably just sideswiped a utility pole. I guess I’ll have to wait a few minutes to print these out.” I went upstairs to see if maybe one of the circuit breakers had blown — as I did so, I could hear one of my other roommates coming down from the second floor — he clearly had the same idea. After checking the breakers and verifying that they were set, my roommate headed next door to see if the neighboring apartment was also without power. It was then that we found out why the power had gone out.
Hanging neatly on the outside door knob was a flyer from the utility company. Evidently, someone had forgotten to pay the electric bill. We weren’t too surprised — the other roommate in charge of the electric bill is, shall we say, intellectually deficient. A nice guy, but just not quite all there. It took us a while to wake him up, but we eventually got him out the door with a check in his hand. The power was restored within an hour, but needless to say, we’ll be transferring that account to someone else.
